I’ve been using Mozilla Firefox as my default web browser for several years now. In fact, I started using Firefox back when it was called Firebird – remember that?
Before Firefox? Well, let’s see – there was the Mozilla Suite and before that I used Netscape Communicator. In fact, I’ve never really used Internet Explorer as a browser at all. The most use IE has gotten from me in the last few years is to download Firefox on a fresh install of Windows.
As I blogged earlier, I was recently allowed use of an older MacBook Pro (2006 model, Core Duo) and I’ve been flip-flopping between Firefox and Safari on the Mac. I also tried Camino, but I just couldn’t warm up to it at all. So far, I think Safari really is winning me over on Mac OS X (as you know, Safari on Windows is an entirely different story).
As a result of this, I have decided to take a Firefox sabbatical, so to speak. I’m going to not use Firefox for 2 weeks. After being surprised by Safari, I wanted to see just how good (or bad) IE really was. I’m going to dust off the IE icon on my Windows machines and fire it up. I’m really curious to see how it compares. Will it be better? Worse? Perhaps about the same???
Only time will tell. Stay tuned for how things go, and to find out if I make the switch permanent, or if I go back to Firefox full-time after the 2 weeks are up.
